The GIFt of Video in Email Marketing

Today, it’s a universal best practice to include video in your marketing strategy. And incorporating video into your email marketing strategy can translate to results.

Results like a 200 to 300% increase in click-through rate.

However, marketers report omitting video from email marketing due to lack of content, lack of video budget or lack of confidence in effectiveness. Whether you’re a skeptic or supporter of video in email marketing, there’s a way to stay noncommittal.

Use video in an oh-so-subtle way through GIFs. Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a graphic image on the web that moves. You’ve probably seen them in your email when a company wants to demonstrate their product’s selection or rotate color choices. Animated GIFs can loop endlessly or stop after a set number of sequences.

Pronounced with either a hard or soft ‘G’, the phonetic debate has consumed the media-browsers, even causing quite the stir in our office:

Hard or soft 'G'

We digress.

No matter how you choose to pronounce it, GIFs add the perfect touch of engagement to your email marketing campaign. Not recommended for B2B companies, GIFs are best utilized for retail companies or other B2C.

Put simply: A .gif file animates an image through frame movement. The best length for a GIF used for sale purposes is about three or four frames, never exceeding seven.
